MDEC, Iverson and Cloudera upskill lecturers who focus on Apache Hadoop curriculum

Kuala Lumpur |  The next generation of data professionals are going to be nurtured. The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Iverson Associate and Cloudera have decided to provide paid training to lecturers who focus on Apache Hadoop curriculums at tertiary institutions.

Announced 21 July 2016, this training will be made available to the first ten universities in Malaysia that sign up for the Cloudera Academic Partnership (CAP) programme and will be available to two lecturers per university.

It is now absolutely essential for our workforce to be equipped with analytics skill-sets as we are rapidly working towards the vision of Malaysia becoming a regional hub for BDA by 2020.

There are currently more than 100 tertiary institutions globally involved in this programme including:-

  • Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR);
  • Multimedia University (MMU);
  • Sunway University in Malaysia;
  • National University of Singapore (NUS); and
  • Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in Singapore.

“The Big Data Analytics (BDA) ecosystem requires consistent and sustainable supply of skilled workforce. Our goal is to continue to grow and nurture data professionals through collective efforts with Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) and the private sector. It is now absolutely essential for our workforce to be equipped with analytics skill-sets as we are rapidly working towards the vision of Malaysia becoming a regional hub for BDA by 2020,” said Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, CEO, MDEC.

How does the Cloudera Academic Partnership Programme work?

Through the programme, Cloudera provides partner institutions with a complete, paid, industry-standard Hadoop curriculum that schools can incorporate into their courses.

To date, Cloudera has trained more than 40,000 participants and certified more than 10,000 Hadoop professionals.

  • Teaching staff and students affiliated with the partnership programme institutions can freely download a wide selection of Cloudera supplementary training material and receive discounts on all Cloudera Certification examinations;
  • Teaching staff also qualify for deep discounts on Cloudera University professional training delivered by Cloudera’s team of expert Hadoop instructors; and
  • Teaching staff benefit from up-to-date classroom tools, instructor forums, dedicated programme support, and the world’s largest Hadoop knowledge-base.

Cloudera Education Software License Programme

Accredited, non-profit academic institutions can also take advantage of the other more robust features of Cloudera’s software suite through a special University License.

Cloudera Academic Partnership programme members have free access to Cloudera Enterprise: Data Hub Edition for 12 months to support data-intensive testing, development, and research. In conjunction with Cloudera’s industry-leading open-source platform, the University License provides the partnership programme participants with the tools needed to achieve major breakthroughs in big data.

Foundation for Cloudera Academic Partnership Programme Curriculum: Cloudera University

The Cloudera Academic Partnership programme curriculum was developed from the industry-leading training courses and technical certifications offered by Cloudera University, which focuses on Apache Hadoop, its ecosystem and data science. To date, Cloudera has trained more than 40,000 participants and certified more than 10,000 Hadoop professionals.
